About

Gluten Free Singapore

Gluten Free Singapore began in 2012 as the Singapore Celiac and Gluten Intolerance Support Group to connect people living gluten-free in Singapore. Over the years, interest in the group has grown from a dozen expats to nearly 2000 people from multiple countries and ethnicities. The goals of the group are to include, educate, and support all people in Singapore who adhere to a gluten-free diet.

Gluten Free Singapore is run by volunteers who are dedicated to the mission of educating, generating awareness, and supporting people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance. Dr. Brian Schwender, Gastroenterologist and Bridget Marr, Dietitian both serve as volunteer advisors for the group.

How We Do It

Gluten Free Singapore is run by volunteers who give of their own time and funds to support, educate, and generate awareness for people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance.

The support group organizes a monthly free event for the community to meet up in person and get to know fellow gluten-free people. Occasionally evening or family events are coordinated.

GlutenFree.SG website provides free of charge information about celiac diagnosis, testing, and the gluten-free diet in association with global medical standards.  Additionally, the website brings together information about shopping, dining, and traveling while following a gluten-free diet in Singapore. In the future, the site offers services such as classes, consultancy, product reviews, and special offers from local gluten-free vendors.

All advertising, both paid and complementary go through the registered entity One Degree Gluten Free. Funds generated from 1°GF are used to cover the cost of running the Singapore Celiacs and enables the support group to continue operating free of charge to members.

Our Goals

  • To empower the gluten-free community of Singapore through consumer support, advocacy, and education.
  • To bring together all gluten-free resources useful for living in Singapore.
  • Support and increase gluten-free awareness and diagnosis within the medical community and local population.
  • Support and improve gluten-free food service in restaurants and schools.
  • Create and connect a network of gluten-free people in Singapore and southeast Asia.
  • Educate Singapore residents about celiac disease and gluten-related disorders and provide support and education to the local population post diagnosis.
